Concrete Pavers Make For Good Patios

Choice seems to be the underlying common thread when building a patio, walkway, or driveway area. There are a wide variety of materials that will enhance a surface and last a long time with low maintenance and repair cost. But specific functioning can help determine what material to use for what job. When it comes to patios and walkways, concrete pavers are a good way to go.

Concrete pavers essentially are concrete pieces that fit together to form a functioning surface. They are made in many different shapes, sizes, and colors. Since the early nineteen-seventies they have been gaining popularity in the Western world, growing from their primarily European roots. They are incredibly strong, able to withstand up to 8000 pounds per square inch, more durable than clay bricks, and they are versatile and aesthetically pleasing in almost any exterior landscape setting.

They are installed on top of two layers, one of stone and one of sand. Sand acts as a stabilizer, also poured over the pavers and compressed. This method is useful with ground frost and spring thaw situations, since there is no cracking or shifting. Tiles can move individually to compensate for subterranean erosion.

Concrete pavers are easily installed, making them a candidate for do-it-yourself projects. They are less expensive than natural stone and most brick pavers by the square foot. They cater to the artistic side of landscaping as well, with different shapes being able to interlock in different patterns, such as rectangular, circular, hexagonal, or swirling. Imagination is the only limit.
